Lausanne - June 11th

So, I figured I would add a little bit of information for yesterday since things were tight for time when I posted the pictures. The city that we visited was Lausanne which is the headquarters for the Olympic Committee and the Olympic Museum as well as the best example of Gothic architecture in all of Switzerland, the Lausanne Cathedral.

So the first set of photos that I posted are of the the cathedral. I was just blown away by the detail work that was involved with the building. I took a lot more photos than were posted but they were mostly for cataloging for design inspiration so they wouldn't really be worth looking at.
1. The first photo is from the top of the tower, that is currently under restoration but cool as heck.
2. The last two emails are also from the top of the tower and one has my new beard! Actually, it is not quite what I expected and am not sure I will make it the entire month without shaving it off.
3. With the exception of one photo of a black Sunbeam car, the remaining photos are all of the inside of the cathedral.

The most recently posted photos are also from the same day and are of the trip to the Olympic Museum. We worked very hard on a series of concept torch designs for both the 2010 Vancouver and 2012 London Olympics that were to be displayed in at the museum. Few of us in the class really had a true idea of what that meant for use as students until we actually got to the museum. When we arrived the museum was hard to spot because of the way it was designed. Only two layers of the building can be seen above ground and even those are hard to see from the road right in front of the place. There are over four more levels under ground to go with the two above ground. The exhibition was in the main space inside the front door next to a permanent exhibit and included all of the designs from the class as well as an introductory statement about the class and the project. There is some talk about translating everything into French as well as the original English which is only for exhibits that will last longer than three weeks! That is about all there is to say except that there is a chance to get the exhibit shown to the committees for each of the respective Olympics!
